prof. Lucyna Pospiech, M.D., Ph. D.
Main fields of clinical and scientific activity are widely understood otology and otoneurology, diagnostic and treatment of hearing impairment, tinnitus, vertigoes and balance system disorders.
She graduated from Medical University of Wrocław, Faculty of Medicine in 1959. She obtained the M.D. diploma in 1960. She completed her first degree specialisation in Otolaryngology in 1967 and the second degree specialisation in 1973.
She defended her Ph.D. thesis in 1979, entitled „The influence of noise and vibration on the balance system in a selected group of marine transport employees”. She got her postdoctoral degree in 1989, the postdoctoral dissertation was entitled „Kinesiotherapy of vertigoes and balance disorders, in vestibular system impairment”. The professor title has been granted to her in 1999.
Between 1996 and 2006 she held the position of the Head of the Department of Otolaryngology, Medical University of Wrocław. She served numerous internships abroad, pertaining to otomicrosurgery in Würzburg, Stockholm and Hanover. Her publication include 224 research papers, announced in Polish journals, mainly in Otolaryngologia Polska (Polish Journal of Otolaryngology), as well as in international journals, i.e. Auris Nasus Larynx, Diabetology, Neurootological Newsletters, J. Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetic Medicine, Int. J. Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology. The co-author of 4 patents. She has got major innovative achievements in the field of labyrinthology; she created the labyrinthological research centre in Wrocław, being one of Polish leading centres.
She has introduced theoretical and practical principles of vertigoes and balance disorders to Polish literature. She was the head of two major research projects by the State Committee of Scientific Research, related to the computerised electronystagmography and recording of auditory brainstem evoked potentials. These are pioneer studies in Poland.
She promoted 10 M.D., Ph.D.s. She reviewed 12 Ph.D. dissertations, 4 postdoctoral dissertations, and 3 professor programs. She was awarded with the Golden Cross of Merit, the Commission of National Education Medal, Production Innovator Award, and an Award for Excellence in Health Service. During her term in office as the Head of the Department, she organised the 38th Congress of Polish Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons, 9th Audiological Symposium as well as 2nd Polish-Czech Symposium. From 1999 to 2006 she used to be the oto-rhino-laryngology regional consultant.
She used to be the president of Wrocław branch of Polish Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons.
